OK, what is a girl to do when she wants to remove the perception of gender bias, from the English words woman and women, in her writing? How do you manage the singular and plural forms?

See the trouble I get my self into trying to be clever and true to me? I don’t have the answers I just know at a gut level that we language our world and language our experience. I am having a female experience this time round not a male experience. How can I, and my experience, be referenced within our current culture?

When the Lion Learns to Write

There is a fabled tale about a little boy who questioned how Tarzan could have defeated all the jungle animals, including the mighty lion. The child’s mother replied, “My son, you’ll get a different story when the lion learns to write.” Contained in her response are two valuable lessons in truth-telling. First, there is always more than one version of the truth. Second, the one with the pen (Freudian symbolism intended) is at the defining center and can tell a story that is (mis)taken to be inclusive, real and whole.
